And here’s PeperonP proving to us that Kaito CAN sound good in his higher register and be featured in a song with a serious tone.  He sounds a bit nasally though, but I’m not sure if that’s the producer’s or the Vocaloid’s fault.  Aside from that, everything’s pretty damn solid with all of the instruments being handled well and the lyrics telling about a man’s struggle with desire and trying to find traces of his loved one for about seven years are damn decent and don’t make me think the song was written by a 12 year old writer on quizilla.  I like the strings solo in the intro and connecting the last chorus to the rest of the song best myself, but the whole song is wonderful as a whole.

BEAUTY -more beautiful- by MIJIPIN (you might know him for his more famous Meiko song, NOISE), is just a straight up vanilla rock song.  Meiko’s vocals are obviously robotic, but they’re the kind of robotic that make it seem as if MIJIPIN left it that way on purpose.

As this song has no subtitles (as many other great songs I review don’t why can’t i speak Japanese WHY), I can only guess at what the lyrics mean, whether she’s singing all about how beautiful things in life are but you outshine them all or maybe she has a sexy alter ego where she steals jewelry from people & thing and is wondering when the Japanese equivalent of the IRS will show up, I don’t know.  I just know I enjoy how this song builds up from calm opening lines to intense choruses, and how everything is just put together well & with competence within the song.

Did you know that there’s a whole genre of songs out there like this, dedicated to people’s fetishes & usually have PVs drawn & set up like dating simulator games?    They all have a very similar upbeat sound to them & use a lot of synthesizers too, and just get very repetitive to me after a while, but their is some variation in them here & there.  I understand that they have their time & place and hey, why not have fetishes make life more interesting you know, but they’re not my style.

I picked this song out of the whole genre though to review today just because reading the lyrics themselves, I just feel horrible for Len & Piko. I mean, gosh, they get stared at for long periods of time…

are chased around by hordes of fangirls…

get sexually harassed & publicly embarrassed…

I mean dude, isn’t that a crime?  I mean seriously can’t the boys come back and sue the hell out of those girls for scandalous pictures & forced wearing of fetish clothes?  And they would be found guilty immediately.  Or the judge would  be won over by the girls saying “we’ll give exclusive pictures of them if you let us go.  The BEST pictures.” Eck.

Ah, Len sounds a bit choppy due to earlier Cryptonloid’s short voice samples, & Piko sounds a bit nasally, but they end up covering each other’s weaknesses when they duet (also, is it me or do they sound better singing short phrases in the chorus than they do singular verses?).  It’s a song with nothing spectacular in it, just a nice duet with scary-ass women who are horrible enough to force someone to dress up against their will, and yes I wouldn’t have a problem with this song if they willingly put on the clothes for fun or money though(or both!), but hey.

And aww, look, the author themselves provided the video with lyrics(but didn’t translate them).  See the author’s comment:

I, GobouP, have written and composed this song, originally in Japanese. But once I saw the site shown below, I realized that this song was translated in English. Then I’ve re-edit the video’s subtitle.

That’s sweet you interesting person you.

Ah, I owe y’all some good Piko & Len songs, along with Meiko & Kaito and a Lola review.  I’m catching up, don’t worry!

In the review you just reblogged... Doesn't it seem kinda foolish to not have anymore Miku concerts? Surely it can't really be her last. She's still the icon and people still love her. Don't you think Cryptonloid concerts would still make money? We all know Crypton likes money. But yes. Oliver concert. He just needs a few awesome original songs. Then he needs a concert. And I will so enthusiastic that people will mistaken me for a scary, straight pedofangirl.

That’s what I was thinking too, Lily, a bad marketing decision.  But perhaps it’s Miku’s last concert for the time being, eg. not until her English Voicebank comes out for V3.  Honestly, I’m kind of surprised yet kind of not that Crypton hasn’t really been keeping up with the V3 market in general, but hey, monies.

Mmm yes, some more original awesome Oliver song.  My question is where is this Oliver concert going to take place?  Oliver’s homeland, England?  The U.S. of A?  Japan? This honestly bugs me, because I’m not sure if there is enough of a fanbase for him.  Now if they said a SEEU concert I would understand it much better, but Oliver?  Hm.

They can either get English speaking producers for him/ask to use songs produced in other countries in Japan, and that would be amazing, or they will get him to cover an English song or two.  Eh, we’ll see about Oliver when we get there :U

Time for a very sweet Hatsune Miku Song y/y?

Girlfriend, by FullkawaP, is a song about someone enjoying time with their beloved girlfriend, without outright saying “I’m having so much fun with you” or anything of the sorts.  No, in a nice twist of lyrics writing, the singer describes a few memories they had of their girlfriend in a more story-like format.  The song is kind of a march, whether it be in happiness or remembrance or triumph, I can’t tell, but it does sound like a grand statement of love from one to another.

It’s the opposite of getting someone a huge & tacky Valentine’s bouquet is what I’m trying to say here.

Miku’s Append!Soft was used here for the Vocals, along with miss Luka doing backup on various places + the English chorus.  While Luka does just fine on her parts of the song, Miku sounds… funny.  And I don’t mean that her append!soft sounds bad or anything, I mean, it sounds like someone was rubbing her voice against a smooth surface and it gave off this squeaky sound to it, if her voice was tangible. :U  I’d like this song much better if her voice wasn’t doing that.

The second thing I could compare it to is a rubber ducky being squeezed, that raspy sound.

Miku’s kinda flat here as well, and I don’t know if that’s from her append or what.  Either way, it’s a great song, I just wish the vocals were better. :<

Itikura-P actually made a pretty spiffy remix of this song with much better vocals, with SF-A2 Miki as the lead singer and Luka in the background again.  It keeps the march intact, and goes for a bit more childish/upbeat/silly tune to it.  Check it out if you have the time! :D

▷ Vocaloid 3 Updates from the VocaWikia

  • MOEJAPAN has introduced the concept of a “Vocaloid you can meet”, the “fusion of a 2D Vocaloid and a 3D idol”: Vocaloidol. “Real” idols from two agencies, MOGRA and Dear Stage, will provide their voices to several Vocaloids, and there will be events where fans will have the opportunity to meet these “real Vocaloids”.
  • Crypton; Their Vocaloid 3 line-up is due Summer 2012. Currently they are not updating their Vocaloid 2 voicebanks to Vocaloid 3. Confirmation from Japan notes that they will not be making new Vocaloid characters any time soon.

Now here’s a really up beat song!

Dream Chaser, composed by MineK(the same person who composed that Gachapoid & Meiko Duet from a previous review) and preformed by Gakupo & Meiko, is a song about, well, chasing your dreams & not wasting your time just dreaming about them.  A motivating, simple, & upbeat message for a catchy, simple, & upbeat song.  Nothing to say about the lyrics, aside from the silly parts about comparing dream jobs.

Gakupo takes care of the lower notes while Meiko goes on high.  Unlike that last MineK song I reviewed though, MineK’s use of Meiko’s higher voice is actually quiet…fitting, and I can get past it’s squeak-like qualities.  I mean, I still love hearing her more mature, natural voice, but MineK used her soprano voice well in this.  I don’t know if it’s because of how she sounds next to Gakupo, or perhaps how she sounds next to the synthesizers, or whether I’m just used to being disappointed by artist who don’t use Meiko’s natural mature voice and just make her kawaiiko.

Just, just got something in my eyes….

But in all honesty, both Gakupo & Meiko sound nice & smooth, and fit in nicely with the rest of the song.  The synthesizer is nice to hear, the song is nicely paced out - it’s just a really nice electronic pop song. c:
