Hi there! Welcome to Vocaloid Review, where I, Tinker, review Songs & various other Vocathings as well, with some added snark for your viewing pleasure.

Ai ga Tarinai/Love is Not Enough is kind of a weird song for me.  From the title and the lyrics (found in the youtube’s video description), Yoyo-P made a depressing song about a man exhausted of giving love and is worried about dying from loving someone so much or because they’re horrible and giving love to them is bad (The former is really sweet I think?  Lyrics are confusing).  But then you have this high pitch techno sound and some dude saying ARE YOU READY as if the audience is playing DDR and gosh, it’s really jarring when you think about it.

What I’m hearing.

The song is too depressing to dance to for me, but it somehow still works as a sad song due to good DDR atmosphere (kinda). I do love this song as a wannabe DDR song though, Gakupo’s voice sounds like the electronic musical equivalent of fracturing many shades of glass and arranging them in a nice composition.  It’s not the best song in the world, but it’s still one of the better Gakupo songs not Jrock or soft metal.

In the review you just reblogged... Doesn't it seem kinda foolish to not have anymore Miku concerts? Surely it can't really be her last. She's still the icon and people still love her. Don't you think Cryptonloid concerts would still make money? We all know Crypton likes money. But yes. Oliver concert. He just needs a few awesome original songs. Then he needs a concert. And I will so enthusiastic that people will mistaken me for a scary, straight pedofangirl.

That’s what I was thinking too, Lily, a bad marketing decision.  But perhaps it’s Miku’s last concert for the time being, eg. not until her English Voicebank comes out for V3.  Honestly, I’m kind of surprised yet kind of not that Crypton hasn’t really been keeping up with the V3 market in general, but hey, monies.

Mmm yes, some more original awesome Oliver song.  My question is where is this Oliver concert going to take place?  Oliver’s homeland, England?  The U.S. of A?  Japan? This honestly bugs me, because I’m not sure if there is enough of a fanbase for him.  Now if they said a SEEU concert I would understand it much better, but Oliver?  Hm.

They can either get English speaking producers for him/ask to use songs produced in other countries in Japan, and that would be amazing, or they will get him to cover an English song or two.  Eh, we’ll see about Oliver when we get there :U

Now here’s a really up beat song!

Dream Chaser, composed by MineK(the same person who composed that Gachapoid & Meiko Duet from a previous review) and preformed by Gakupo & Meiko, is a song about, well, chasing your dreams & not wasting your time just dreaming about them.  A motivating, simple, & upbeat message for a catchy, simple, & upbeat song.  Nothing to say about the lyrics, aside from the silly parts about comparing dream jobs.

Gakupo takes care of the lower notes while Meiko goes on high.  Unlike that last MineK song I reviewed though, MineK’s use of Meiko’s higher voice is actually quiet…fitting, and I can get past it’s squeak-like qualities.  I mean, I still love hearing her more mature, natural voice, but MineK used her soprano voice well in this.  I don’t know if it’s because of how she sounds next to Gakupo, or perhaps how she sounds next to the synthesizers, or whether I’m just used to being disappointed by artist who don’t use Meiko’s natural mature voice and just make her kawaiiko.

Just, just got something in my eyes….

But in all honesty, both Gakupo & Meiko sound nice & smooth, and fit in nicely with the rest of the song.  The synthesizer is nice to hear, the song is nicely paced out - it’s just a really nice electronic pop song. c:

Happy birthday to you,
happy birtday to you,
happy birthday dear whoeveryouareIdon’tknowneverheardofyoubefore,
happy birthday to you! :D
Kidding, kidding, I know you’re Ryuto, & I have a song for this occasion too! c:

This song is called Grasshopper’s Story, and I have no idea what is going on in this, but I think it sounds pretty damn cool, with the only accompanying instrument being the Piano.
Gumi & Rin join in the chorus, with Ryuto singing the rest of the time, although I can’t tell if he also voices the Tone-deaf robot.  This is acceptable though, since the PV has made it clear that this is kind-of a puppet show musical, with the story being told through song, it’s only natural that the inhuman characters have odd voices.  I’d love to know the lyrics to this, since that’s where it’s at with this song.
I do have to say that Ryuto’s voice in this is pretty damn spiffy, as are Rin & Gumi on the chorus (they blend well).  This is defiantly worth one listen through c:

Finally, Gumi’s demos released!
Power: NIGHTMARE || Whisper: Waltz for Stranger
Sweet: A Flash of Summer || Adult: Showroom Dummy

For those who don’t have a Nico account, I got them all right here:
Power:

Whisper:

Sweet:

And Adult:

For those of you who don’t know yet, Gumi & the other Internet Co. Ltd voicebanks are going to get their own updated vocal bank.  Yes, even  Ryuto/Gachapoid.

I’m honestly as shocked as you are right now.
Instead of calling them “Appends” though, they’re going to be called “Extends” instead, and it’ll be on the Vocaloid3 Engine. According to the Vocaloid wiki, this is how it’s going to work (for Megpoid, at least):

These are 4 new vocals for her Vocaloid 3 release; Power, Whisper, Adult, Sweet.
Gumi’s new voicebanks are sold as a pack or individually. Unlike the Appends of Crypton’s CV series, this means you are not forced to purchase voicebanks you do not wish, and can aquire them all or only the ones you wish. This also means you do not have to pay a large sum of money for them all in one hit. However, it is cheaper to buy them in one pack if buyers wish to own all voicebanks. They will also be sold with or without the Vocaloid 3 software.
You will not need the original Vocaloid 2 version of the Megpoid software for each voicebank to work and each be able to be bought as starter vocals for the Vocaloid 3 software or without it the Vocaloid 3 software.

So far, these 4 demos + two others have been released.  As a Gumi fan, I love all the additions, with whisper being my favorite.  I think I’m going to enjoy Adult’s quiet a bit too, as it seems the most different out of all of them & really brings something new to Megpoid’s voice.
I don’t have any assumed release dates yet, but I’m going to assume that all the voicebanks will come out within the next 3 years.  Hopefully.

▷ Gachapoid… Just, Gachapoid.

Oh gosh, this is going to be a long one.

Released on October 8th, 2009, by INTERNET Co. Ltd, Gachapoid (His mascot being named Ryuto) was based on a popular pre-exisiting character named Gachapin on Hirake! Ponkikki.  This character was a dinosaur-like creature, thus why he sounds quiet inhuman.  According to the Vocaloid Wiki, he’s intended for children’s usage, which is quiet the noble aim & is something I can admire.

…unfortunately, he’s almost universally ignored/hated/shunned in the western fandom, and almost all producers have an aversion to using him since he sounds so inhuman.  I actually wasn’t going to review Ryuto at first due to his lack of songs & his off sounding voice, but, er, someone…. asked me to change my mind on that.

Help me.

Lily please don’t mess up my sketchbook it’s my baby please don’t do this to me i’m complying to your demands…

▷ Lily Makes Parents Hide Their Children

Welcome back into our fabulous foray into the world of the more “unheard” of Vocaloids, this time, finally covering a company not AH-Software: Internet CO. Ltd.

Released on August 25th, 2010 & voiced by Yuri Masuda of the band m.o.v.e., Lily is an oddly polarizing Vocaloid.  While in Japan she’s well liked, in the western fandom she was treated quiet…harshly upon her release.  Some fans found her voice difficult to work with & sound good with, others commented upon her revealing attire, or that she looked like Rin but older.  It’s about a year after her release though, and most fans have warmed up to her though, so that’s good.

Don’t say anything more again to Lily though.  Just… don’t.

WARNING GUYS THIS SHIPS GAKUPO & GUMI AS BRO & SIS

Just a warning to those touchy about shipping & incest and all. (Honestly, I think this fandom’s survived weird-er)  Besides, the song is just so happy, upbeat & comical about things, I can’t be angry at it really.

I think most of the people who watch me have seen this song, especially those who are fans of either/both of these Internet CO. Vocaloids.  I honestly don’t have any critique on this song, other than it’s funny, nicely sung, & has a nice string theme going on that makes me happy. It’s just a simple song that makes me laugh whenever I watch it.

Plus I just love Gakupo in that outfit right there.  I just do.

Is that a pair of panties on his head or is that just a style of headband? I’m honestly curious about this now.

Oh, and for those who aren’t brushed up on their weeaboo:

Aniki - Big Brother

Onii-Chan - Big Brother

Baka - Stupid

Kawaii - Cute

Imoto - Little sister

▷ Planeter: A duet

You know, I’ve been listening to Lily music this past week, and something odd about it just struck me now.  Most of her songs are endless looping techno music.

Stare at this for fifteen minutes & tell me you’re eyes aren’t sore.  Now transfer that to music: That’s techno.(to me, at least)

Now don’t get me wrong, part of being a really appreciative Vocaloid fan requires you to have an appreciation for these kinds of songs, or at least a well built tolerance (and I have both).  It’s just that… IT NEVER ENDS.  I tend to find most techno how I find most fanfiction that’s not really good or really bad: either is just too generic or too boring.

So instead, I bring you techno’s cousin, electronic, to your ears with a song called Planeter:

You know, I’d like to take the PV more seriously if at 1:53 they didn’t start floating around space as still pictures.  They look like they’re space core, just floating like that.

Appropriate.

A simple song that only repeats it’s structure twice, Planeter is just this sweet, excited bubbly song that really does make you wanna reach for the stars.  Gumi & Luka both sound electronic, but since it fits the tone & theme of the song & doesn’t mess with their singing, it doesn’t actually interfere with the song at all.  The lyrics are beautiful, the fast pace is great when mixed with the slower chorus, and it’s just a song that makes you have sweet dreams if you listen to it before you go to bed at night, and is basically the song equivalent to dashing through the rings of various gas planets & racing up & around stars on your rocket boots through space as fast as they allow you to go.

…to me, at least.  Stop looking at me like that.  I’m a writer I can’t help it. ;w;

This song.  Just this song.

Drown & Lost as it’s called is under the category of “song that want to make love to you in one way or”, and by George, it’s one of the few Vocaloid songs that actually succeeds in it’s goal of sounding sexy unlike Spice.

While their voices are still a bit mechanical & robotic in this, it’s excusable & otherwise MY GOODNESS GAKUPO I NEVER KNEW YOU COULD SOUND SO SEXY THERE, having the lower part in this song really work for his voice.  And Kiyoteru sounds pretty damn fine on that high part too don’t get me wrong.

The song’s incredibly fast, and works well with the vocals.  The guitar solo is just great, that instrument that keeps twinkling is just great, the drumming kicks ass, the lyrics are actually pretty damn sexy, and it’s all just a great song to show to anyone who says that either of these two don’t have any good songs.

Either way:
